In one book I've read a few days ago, there was this antagonist who wants to decrypt everything, bring down all secrecy, and bring 100% total transparency for everything digital. Let's assume it is possible, and maybe someone or some group are trying to achieve something like this, what do you think will happen to the world?
Imagine every emails sent can be searched. Every encrypted communication, decrypted. Everything that were done via #Tor
and other #deepweb
are readable by anyone, anywhere. The unbeatable "virus" (if we can call it that) infects anything that connects to the Internet, so even if you have a mesh network, if only one made the mistake to connect to the Internet, the whole mesh network is affected. The only way to ensure secrecy again is to start a new network and make sure no one makes the mistake of connecting to any infected gadget, system, or network. Yes, it's that bad.
What will happen to all of us in that scenario? Everything searchable. There will probably be wars. The people will probably riot now that they know the secrets of their respective governments. There might be assassinations too. Society will collapse. Relationships broken. Companies will shut down.
Humanity will go back to being "offline".
Or, will it be just another drama in our history… we will move on… apologise… possibly destroy all gadgets, infected or not, and start fresh and go back to our "old ways"?
Crazy. The idea came from a very long series entitled "Out of the Box" (25 books already I think, and still not done, I'm only at the 14th right now).
